Sitamarhi district is located in the northern part of the Indian state of Bihar, close to the India–Nepal border. It is an important district from historical, cultural, and religious points of view.

Sitamarhi is widely believed to be the birthplace of Goddess Sita, the consort of Lord Rama. The famous Punaura Dham is a major religious site, attracting thousands of devotees every year. Because of its connection to the Ramayana, Sitamarhi holds great significance in Hindu mythology. The district is mainly agrarian. Agriculture is the backbone of the local economy, with major crops including rice, wheat, maize, and sugarcane. Fruits like litchi and mango are also cultivated in the region.
